We are looking for a Software Developer with extensive web development expertise to join our growing multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant will be deeply involved in the ongoing worldwide deployment of ELSIE, Coimbra Genomics’ clinical decision support platform. We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work with small groups of specialists in complex situations.
About us
Coimbra Genomics is a young company working in Digital Health and Precision Medicine. We are developing ELSIE, an innovative platform simplifying how medical doctors uses genomic information from patients to make better decisions on prescription and diagnosis, all in the setting of a regular medical appointment. ELSIE is the first of its kind to connect patients, physicians and laboratories in a unique community, which is now being deployed in several top hospitals and clinics around the world.
About You
– You are an experienced software developer. You can cross software development boundaries and perform DevOps tasks. You have produced high-quality production code in Ruby on Rails.
– You love integration and automation. You are open to shifting from application development to ship a new critical feature to infrastructure code maintenance to help scale our systems.
– You have previous experience building applications on one of more technologies used in our stack, including all AWS services, Ruby on Rails, Redis, Postgres, Elasticsearch, Git, CSS3 or JavaScript, among others. You know how to scale these applications and understand the roles of all involved technologies.
– You know your way around databases, modelling new schemas from scratch or writing comprehensive data management queries.
– You like to learn. Software is a world of continuous innovation. You enjoy playing with new technologies and exploring areas where you have not worked before.
– You are efficient and like to multitask. You are open to collaborate on the issues at hand, from work on speculative projects to many other small tasks on a day to day basis.
– You love to set your own course. You get to make things happen without someone saying so. In return, we expect you to go ahead and make something happen if it needs to be done.

Your Responsibilities
The ELSIE platform has plenty of room to grow. Hence, these are some of things you’ll do regularly:
– Work independently as well as collaborate with everyone to develop a unique product in the market.
– Design, plan and implement new scalable, stable, and user-friendly features.
– Develop new systems in the ELSIE platform ecosystem.
– Automate disaster recovery efforts to test and improve overall resiliency to failures.
– Solve and implement scalability improvements to keep our systems running efficiently.
– Improve documentation about our processes and workflows.
– Experiment with new web technologies and development processes.
– Solve challenging technical problems and put your skills to the test every day, seeing an immediate impact of your work and value you created for customers.
Key skills and Experience
– You have a degree in computer science or similar (Master or PhD) and professional experience of at least 5 years working in relevant mid- to large scale development projects.
– You have top-notch programming skills, ability to produce quality code that is maintainable, efficient, reliable and secure.
– You are passionate about web development and fearless about learning new technologies and technical approaches to application development.
– You are knowledgeable about all kinds of SQL databases.
– You have a personal interest in developing products that customers want and can quickly adapt to new requirements.
– You have excellent communication skills (Portuguese and English, both written and verbal) and are good communicator with common sense and taste for the art of solving problems.
Differentiating skills
ELSIE is a Digital Health platform. Previous experience working in bioinformatics, e-health or similar is a welcome addition. Likewise, experience scaling e-commerce and/or marketplace systems is also a differentiating skill.
